Small Birds, Big Results

Taking budgies from fearful to fearless, hormonal to healthy, confused to confident

Azuki and Her Eggs

Azuki laid more than FIFTY eggs in the two years after arriving home.

Her human tried everything, I mean EVERYTHING. Different foods, more darkness, changing the cage, everything the internet told her to do. But she kept laying eggs year round.

Upon examining Azuki, we realized she was consistently laying eggs because she was in the presence of MASSIVE hormonal triggers, resulting in the persistent breeding and egg laying.

We worked together to remove each of these triggers systematically at the end of 2023 and she continues to be egg-free.

Cookie's Biting

So so so proud I got to share this, especially with Amy Zhao!! Will make a progress video soon. This is Cookie. She used to BITE ME A LOT. With or without food, she would just bite my hand or finger and ignore the treats. This is a very huge accomplishment after 4 good months with her. I am overjoyed!!

Azul and Greenie

Azul and Greenie, two young adult male budgies, were sold to their new human and told that they are “hand tame”.

Their behavior showed something completely different. They were scared, stiff, and would just freeze up or run away anytime they were approached.

They had no interest in food rewards and no familiarity with the inside of a home environment either.

Luckily, their human learned about The Budgie Academy through a friend and one Signature Series later, they are confident and consistent in coming to interact and learn all types of new behaviors!

They now enjoy running around on the desk and chatting up a storm during our weekly community lives. 🤣

Cielo and Her Nails

Cielo was the first budgie to join The Budgie Academy community, and her nails were getting quite long!

Her human commented that she didn’t feel comfortable bringing her to the vet for a nail trim because they always trimmed them overly short, resulting in falling and sometimes even cutting into the blood supply.

Using cooperative care training techniques, we taught Cielo to hold still while we gently trimmed just the tip off the nail.

The result, a calm, stress-free experience for both Cielo and her human and no more getting caught on her human’s shirts. 🤩
