What changes when the foundation is right.
Mochi, Rio, Cloudy, Poppy, Kiwi & Bubbles
When these six came to me, they’d been a flock only a few months and the fear ran high — Mochi and Rio would panic the moment a hand came near the cage. Training felt like guesswork. And with a young, mixed male-and-female flock just starting to show the first signs of hormones, she wanted to act early and set all six up for the future ahead of them.
We built the foundation properly: new perch layouts, a new diet, and a way for her to read and manage both hormones and flock dynamics. Most of all, I taught her to build a real relationship with all six at once. You’ll hear online that you can’t train budgies with other birds present; that’s simply not true. We worked with the whole flock together.
By the end of the series, all six had comfortable places to rest, fly, and be together, and the dynamics were stable. Even her most fearful birds learned to come forward and hop aboard. That’s Rio in the photo — once the shyest of the flock, now a confident little lady who comes over for a visit entirely on her own.
Brumby
Brumby was found out on a lawn — hungry, lost, and belonging to no one anybody could track down. The family took her in, fed her, and kept her when no owner turned up. She settled quickly, but no one had ever taught her how to move around a home or be with people. She was deeply fearful, and nesting behaviors were setting in.
We rebuilt her world from the ground up: environment, caging, perching, and diet, plus a new tree stand designed to bring her closer to her humans. Then we set a routine the whole family could share, so she could interact with them as one of the flock. Bit by bit, she came out of her shell.
These days she steps up onto a finger without hesitation, offers unsolicited eyebrow-preening, rides the human taxi when everyone gets home, and supervises work-from-home days from the top of the laptop screen — opinions very much included.

Many clients have mixed-species flocks. While the work focuses on a budgie-specific foundation, the biology behind stable hormones, predictable rhythms, and healthy behavior applies across parrot species — and we adapt the recommendations so your whole flock benefits.
